Stag Night Folly?
Mr A was a typical "good boy"
who was getting married in 2 weeks time. During his "stag night"
he got drunk and had unprotected oral and vaginal intercourse with
a prostitute. The next morning he was distraught and regretted his
actions. We were able to help him by offering post exposure treatment
(prophylaxis) to reduce his risk of getting HIV by 81%. After completing
his treatment, we were able to ascertain using HIV PCR testing to
give him the reassurance that he had tested negative.
It helps to be SURE!
Don't delay, call us today for a consultation.

Individuals
with dysfunctional anxiety associated with unknown HIV status
Many individuals who exposed themselves on impulse
to the risk of contracting HIV or Aids, suffer from guilt, anxiety
and paranoia in the subsequent days, weeks and months. Even though
they may be tested negative (via the normal blood screening using
the detection of anti-bodies) immediately after the potential exposure,
there is a window period of 3 – 6 months whereby the test
can become positive (when the body undergoes seroconversion). As
such, many of these individual are not able to perform their daily
functions without the constant worry at the back of their mind.
At our centre, we are aware and understand the
anxiety of individuals who are constantly worried about their HIV
status during the window period of 3 – 6 months. As such,
we provide alternative HIV testing that shortens the window period
between infection and detectability of disease to about 12 days
instead of the usual 6 months by methods usually practised in Singapore.
Such a test may be suitable for such individuals and help alleviate
their dysfunctional anxiety.
The screening and consultation is done with
absolute privacy and assurance. A thorough explanation on HIV and
related issues will be provided such that every individual will
leave the clinic well informed about the most recent development
and available precautionary measure.
Raped after drink was spiked, celibate gets
HIV
Excerpt from the Straits
Times 13 July 2008:
Although well-read, the
49-year-old had never bothered to find out more about Aids
and other sexually transmitted diseases because he was celibate.
That lack of curiosity is something
he now regrets deeply.
'I wish I had known about PEP. I could
have been HIV-free now, even if I cannot erase what happened
to me,' he told The Sunday Times.
He said he had contracted the virus
after being raped during a trip to Taiwan in March this year.
...
A series of tests found him HIV positive.
There were also lesions on his anal wall and he had anal warts,
gonorrhoea and chlamydia too.
Blinking back tears, the devout Buddhist
said: 'Imagine - from having no sex to getting everything
at one go.'
He added: 'I have been responsible all
along. I have not hurt anyone, only myself, by keeping quiet
and not seeking help earlier.' |
